OLA went on tour to California!  Steve Flores-Medrano, OLA’s University Relations PM, had a busy week attending CAS’s candidate day, speaking at UCLA along with Brandon Jauregui and attending the OLA Mixer in Los Angeles.  Afterwards, he traveled to Berkeley where he spoke in a panel event with Genesis Betancourt and Bryana Cota answering student questions about the profession.  We appreciate the help from the Bruin Actuarial Society and the Latinx Business Student Association for welcoming OLA!

OLA held a very interactive pulse check session with over 20 attendees on November 2, 2023.  All presenters and guests were engaged in both large group and small group conversations about the job search process, learning about opportunities to increase professional development both within and outside of OLA, and more!

Special thanks to the OLA Academy and RLP Leadership teams, as well as the RLP Students, who helped coordinate this event!

OLA held its Annual Mixer in San Antonio, Texas, at the Tower of the Americas with a record attendance of close to 100 people!

40+ actuarial prospects, 15 OLA Leaders, and corporate sponsors and allies comprising more than 25 companies had a great time networking while enjoying the incredible panoramic view from the tower.

We thank OLA’s Director of Early Career Development, Anthony Lucero, for organizing such incredible event. We appreciate everyone who attended!

We are very proud to have successfully concluded OLA’s first ever Rising Leaders Program (RLP) Annual Conference! Fifteen of OLA’s top students from all over the country met in San Antonio for a full day of development and info sessions from our Platinum Sponsors.

We want to thank our Director of Early Career Development, Anthony Lucero, and our OLA Rising Leaders Program Manager, Will Ringhofer, for an extraordinary job organizing this development and networking opportunity for our rising leaders.

A big thank you to New York Life, Deloitte, WTW, Milliman, Oliver Wyman, Ally and Nationwide for attending the RLP Inaugural Conference and all the guidance provided to our students. We truly appreciate you!

Almost fifty Latine actuaries, aspiring actuaries and allies got together for OLA’s happy hour in Chicago!  The last time we had a mixer in Chicago was in January of 2020.  It was great to see new faces and familiar faces all together.  We are thrilled to see our community in Chicago growing and having a good time together.

We thank OLA’s volunteer and former Board Member, Enrique Schulz, for organizing this successful event. We appreciate every one who attended!

OLA hosted its first in-person happy hour in 2022!  We are thrilled to be back meeting in person.  Danny Fernandez, Anthony Lucero, Carlos Orozco and Anji Li, OLA Board Members who reside in the area, along with Brandon Alcaide, OLAA project manager, welcomed all guests.   A great time was had by all!

Cati Romo, Celeste Trevino, Dennis Rodriguez Garcia and Madeline Levithan, OLA Campus Ambassadors, shared their personal experiences and some tips they learned while pursuing the actuarial career with other Latine actuarial candidates.  They also provided recommendations to help candidates prepare for the hiring season ahead.

We are very proud to announce that the OLA team won the 2022 Travelers Case Competition – National Division! Congratulations to Elvis Arsiniega and Mariana Cano from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Diego Huerta Gutierrez from The University of Texas at Austin, Tanya Y. from Purdue University and Thomas Zorio from Arizona State University. You all stepped up to the challenge and made us proud!

Thank you Travelers for the opportunity given to our students to meet other actuarial students, actuaries and learn about the real-world actuarial business. They all truly enjoyed the experience!
